Ron “RJ” Mehring
York, PA
Chapter – Forever
End Of Watch – 4 Dec 2007
Description/Bio:
RJ was President of the York Chapter of the RPMC. He began his career with the City of York, PA in 1976 as a civilian Youth Service Aid in the Police Department’s Community Services Division, and was appointed as a Police Officer in 1978. During his training, he received high awards for shooting and physical fitness.
RJ served with the Mounted Unit, and was a founding member of the department’s Quick Response Team. As Police Officer First Class, he trained new officers, and was an outstanding firearms instructor and armorer. In 1991, he was promoted to Sergeant and was a founding member and supervisor of the department’s Community Policing Unit, as well as training and patrolling with the Bicycle Unit.
Without a doubt, RJ’s greatest passion both on and off the job was his love of Harley-Davidson motorcycles. He is credited with revitalizing the department’s Motorcycle Unit, which had been inactive for years, supervising maintenance and training of the unit, of which he was extremely proud. During his career, he received numerous awards, including Letters of Commendation, Chief’s Commendations, and the Award of Merit.
On December 4, 2007 RJ lost his courageous battle with cancer. He was our friend and our brother, and we miss him dearly.
